Because having manicured lawns became a sign of wealth last century and Americans still haven’t let the Washington Commanders Conquered the East shirt moreover I love this unhealthy practice die I thought it was because weed killer spray when it was first invented killed a lot more plants than they thought it would. So they just started listing anything it killed as “a weed” Because if it’s beneficial to the human health and a company isn’t getting money for it, it’s deemed fit to spray weed killer on it Many people want a thick lush expanse of green grass with nothing else, so they call the plants other than grass that dare to grow there weeds. Personally things like clover and dandelions don’t bother me at all, it’s all good to me. I will cut down thorny plants and trees where I don’t want them growing. Because the gardening industry has spent a fortune convincing you you need a bowling green smooth manicured lawn with no other plants anywhere on it. Depends on how you look at it. Its good for erosion control and can withstand foot traffic better than most other ground cover plants. Mostly because they’re very good at colonising an area of ground and turn up in people’s lawns. If people want to grow them for salad greens, that’s great – but most people don’t.

I really like this new era we are entering where we fact check definitions and historical truisms only to find out they are rooted in a capitalists desire for profits and are actually completely made up terms or “truths” being perpetuated in order to shill a product. Weeds are just flowers gone rogue. I would think there’s a downside to cultivating them as a food crop. Otherwise, it would have been domesticated thousands of years ago. Probably because it spreads so prolifically. It’s not like you can just have some in a bed somewhere. Leave it be and your lawn – and all your neighbors’ lawns – will be 80% dandelion in 2 years, max, maybe less. I wouldn’t mind a couple of cute little yellow flowers here and there. But an undending sea of the Washington Commanders Conquered the East shirt moreover I love this stuff is ugly. Also it tastes like crap, nutritious or not.
