Conservatives always seem to be the ones who benefit the most from centrist compromises. And that’s generally why there is disdain for centrists among Progressives and leftists. When you present the right and left as of equal value, you are tipping the scales massively in the favour of the right, because this is just not accurately representing reality. You are giving their beliefs legitimacy which is entirely unearned, and they thrive on it. They are a parasitic organism, the legitimacy given to them by “centrism” is what allows them to disguise themselves as an actual political ideology rather than a hate factory. It’s why they can present their groomer panic as “we just care about protecting the children” out of one side of their mouth whilst forcing 9 year old rape victims to give birh and defending institutional child marriage. They want you and me to suffer and die, and they are gonna make a hell of a profit doing it, and you want to tell me both sides are worthy of consideration? Kindly fuck off if you think that. Even idealised centrism, the kind of centrism that “centrism is supposed to be” according to comments in this thread, just preserves the status quo. Ignoring that the current status quo is extremely harmful to multitudes of people to the great benefit of a select few. Nothing will ever get better without radical beliefs.

Centrism doesn’t exist because a person and their politics doesn’t exist in a vacuum – you are already part of a social reality in which political beliefs make up your own views even if you don’t want them to or aren’t aware of it I think because a lot of the UPSIDE DOWN Shirt But I will love this politics we’re focused on right now are less about tax brackets and roadways, and more about people’s rights to their own bodies, or the rights one can have based on whom they love. It’s kind of like a school bully who each day elbows the same kid, calls them names, and otherwise torments them without repercussions. Then if the other kid throws an elbow back one day, they’re both punished because “violence is never acceptable”: it’s ignorance and inaction that’s convinced itself convinced to be impartiality. It’s a hypothetical half way point between a political stance that lacks a cohesive ideology and a political ideology whose policies are often supported by evidence. Wtf would anyone look at that and say, “tough to decide what’s better. Probably somewhere in the middle.”?
