I know it’s not such a nice thing to say, but I think there’s quite a bit of people who become parents because they want to look good, and increase their social standing/moral ground. They want to be “good citizens”. I have a child, although I never had a problem if I didn’t. Part of it was I wanted to make sure my wife had a but say in what she wanted. At times she said she was scared of having one. I respected that decision. She eventually made up her mind that she wanted one. I dont want to give up half my live and time and everything for a tiny human. And honestly I dont think I have that much to teach and give to another human being that Really would Benefit them. And more over I dont want to be pregnant never ever. I work with kids and I love working with kids. That being said, I don’t want to bring a kid to a system that is broken and that keeps breaking with each passing day. Besides that, lots of childhood trauma and the need to put myself, my needs and my wants first, which is totally incompatible with being a parent.

Additionally, I had a couple incidents in my younger years where a partner tried to baby-trap me (which I believe should be considered a form of rape, it being a violation of consent) – therefore I now avoid indulging in doing ‘that’, and consequently will not be having any children.

I have chronic illnesses that cause significant pain. I have had them for many years and eventually I felt I had to let go of my dream of having children. I didn’t want a child to have to accomodate their life around my illness, and I feel that I wouldn’t have had the trex trump with us flag shirt it is in the first place but physical and mental capacities to care for them constantly with my fluctuating symptoms. I was afraid that the child might feel abandoned and I would be an unreliable mother. I would have had to avoid many medications during pregnancy and breast-feeding. So the decision was a relief in a way, but I am still mourning. I have accepted that I might always feel some sadness and a sense of loss around it. But it does make life simpler. Sometimes I meet up with people, go to a concert or a museum, etc. But I usually need a let-down day of rest after them. I love walks in nature, they are healing. I am unemployed at the moment and need to get my symptoms in a better balance before starting work again. My spouse supports us.

I’m in university right now and I already don’t know how I’ll manage to continue all my hobbies when I start working instead of having fewer hours of class per week. I go bouldering, go to the gym, love to read and do embroidery and crochet, love to travel (long vacations but also weekend trips or even day trips for hiking) I’m too mentally ill and don’t want to pass on the gene or be a bad mother. I will try to help people in the world and help myself. And get dogs.
I have multiple medical conditions that would undoubtedly be exacerbated by pregnancy. Even if I adopted instead, taking care of myself is a full-time job already. I still probably wouldn’t be able to care for the kid, without neglecting my own needs. I really value my free time, my social life, my general freedom and lack of liabilities, and my peace and quiet. All of those things go away when you have kids.
