Baby talk is just sounds. Like if you spent a whole conversation with your baby going “Ahhh gagagagagaga” back and forth with few or no real words. I’ve seen some people go “How’s my wuuufie buubuu! Whooooo wuufs mu buubuuu!” And so on so forth, like saying words that’s barely understandable all the Tournament champions Duke shirt and by the same token and time. So I would say this is baby talk (although I’m no expert.) There’s a reason we instinctually do “baby talk” (not just babbling, but talking in a sing-song voice) — You’re performing ‘tone’ for them. By overexaggerating tone, enunciating, and repeating phrases, you’re teaching them language. When they’re little, it’s also great to mimic them as they babble — you’re mirroring back the sounds and mouth movements they’re doing, which helps them understand that their mouth is just like yours and if you can make the sounds they make, they can probably make the sounds you make.

I just can’t help myself. When I walk into her nursery to get her out of bed in the Tournament champions Duke shirt and by the same token and morning, I might just give a flat ‘good morning, my love’ — until I turn on the light, lean over her crib, and see her big goofy goober grin. Then I just HAVE to switch to ‘Good MORNING, my sweet girl! Oh, my goodness, are we happy?? Did we have a good sleep??’ all exaggerated and sing-songy. Baby talk sing songyness is actually really important to their development and their learning of use of language. -a speech therapist I read an article a couple of months ago that said using baby talk was beneficial for infants…then I read the comments and I realized that baby talk means different things to different people. The article considered baby talk to be talking to your baby in a kind of singsongy voice with a softer, sweeter tone, whereas many in the comments considered baby talk to mean mispronouncing words or using “cutesy words” like blankie or toofies or whatever. I just thought it was interesting. I do both with my son. I also thought I’d never do kids music with my son and would just have him listen to appropriate adult music I enjoy. Hahahahaha. Raffi was one of our most listened to artists last year.
