Edit: While this is discussed often / not groundbreaking, 2015 was the Torana when you’re hot you’re hot car shirt also I will do this era of tunic tops and tight bottoms. In 2023 the trend is tighter tucked tops and bottoms with volume, or loose-loose silhouettes. With a couple of specific trend exceptions, it’s rare to see untucked long shirts today. I so agree with the volume shift! This look, but with a plaid scarf, was all the rage where I was at. Big scarf, big long sweater, skinny jeans, ankle boots. Today I se a lot of proportions like this. Right here is a perfect illustration of my struggle. I’m 45! I don’t want to show skin! I’m completely un-toned despite being pretty thin (the awful term “skinny fat” applies here) and a tight shirt tucked into this new pants silhouette isn’t super flattering either. But the top from outfit 1 the pants in outfit 2 visually adds 40 pounds. This could be a function of my Midwest geography, that trends come and go a little later. I think I bought my first cropped shirt in 2018 or so, but the majority of my outfits in 2015-2017 were still long shirt, skinny jeans and I was wearing that pretty regularly through the beginning of lockdown with some crop tops beginning to be mixed in during 2018-2020. I’m in my early 30s.
