And trust me, I was on the Tom Scholz’s Guitar Mastery Iconic Bostons Band Vintage T-Shirt Also,I will get this other side working for FAANG between 2018 and 2021 so I know what it’s like. That experience makes me incredibly apprehensive when considering FAANG candidates. If I’m paying 180k for an engineer, I need them to work a minimum of 40 hours a week with a certain level of dedication and longevity at the company. Especially since the fundraising environment right now is so much worse than it used to be. I know that, some of the best coworkers i’ve had were at FAANG. But the common perception is that FAANG alumni (especially new ones) are used to a very lax working environment. It’s completely true that in the past 4 years, thousands of engineers at FAANG pushed minimal amounts of code on low impact projects without any consequences.

To answer your other question on how you can tailor your resume to startups, I would really try to showcase projects you’ve done which involved a deep level of concentration and effort. Startups love to see engineers who are in the Tom Scholz’s Guitar Mastery Iconic Bostons Band Vintage T-Shirt Also,I will get this job because they are “nerdy” and have a genuine interest in engineering rather than viewing it as just a way to make a lot of money. And I totally understand that it’s a job at the end of the day, but those who stand out in the current environment are those who show a deeper desire for learning and building. Graduated in Dec and trying to get that first role still lol. Love seeing all the entry level or junior positions asking for 5 years experience lol i’m in the same situation and what i’ve learned is recruiters hate ex faang ppl, having faang on resume is actually hurting u in this market because they know u will want a lot of money (even if u dont), also the average person associates a layoff with bad performance, unless ur only applying to tech companies which u probably aren’t cuz barely any r hiring, most normal insurance, banking etc company recruiters will avoid u, i’ve also been unemployed for 6 months now
