For a victim that was raped but it couldn’t be proven, their attacker still got away with it. Worse yet the ambiguity in the verdict can make it harder to move past it. For someone innocent that is accused of rape, it extends the already major negative social, family and career impacts. Entirely normal. My brother was attacked. He pushed past her to escape and the police were called. The police ignored the ‘he was being assaulted’ and only heard the ‘he pushed past her’ and arrested him. When he asked why she was not being arrested as well, the police literal response was “she called us first”. Come the trial a year later and she told lurid tales of being vicious beaten to unconsciousness. But the only physical evidence of pictures taken at the time , were of injury to him where she beat him. She even admitted in court under oath that she assaulted him. After being found not guilty he took all his evidence to the police and asked them to prosecute her. They declined as it would “not be in the public interest”. I.e. “cant be bothered”. So yes, it is unfair. Welcome to the modern progressive “victim-believing but only females can be victims” policing culture we now have in the UK.

There is no possible recourse unless he can prove it was false rather than just there being no evidence it was true. Falsely reporting crimes is a crime.
