I had not been out without makeup ever for 17 years (yes, even to take the Three Gnomes Happy HalloThanksMas Halloween Thanksgiving Christmas Blood Moon T-Shirt but in fact I love this trash out) when the lockdown happened. Since I started working from home full time, I stopped wearing makeup entirely and I really got used to seeing my bare face. It seems crazy but it worked, after 3 years I see makeup as an optional enhancement, not as a baseline for what my face should look like anymore. I only wear minimal makeup at work (one day a month) and I don’t wear any at home or to go shopping etc… I really think it’s about getting used to seeing your own face and then you’ll start appreciating it as it is. I used to be super insecure about my dark under eyes for example, and now they don’t bother me anymore because I see them everyday. I even felt happy when I realized recently that when I’m actually rested, they’re really not that visible!

So maybe start with not wearing makeup to go shopping or for some activities? Start small and work your way up, if you already stopped wearing makeup at home you already started 🙂 Lockdown broke my makeup addiction too. I figured on day 1 that I could give my pores a break. A few years later we had a conference with employees and I bought a new makeup forever powder foundation and I haven’t even opened it. Earlier this month I also went to our hq in Florida for a week and had to remember to put mascara and eyeliner on before work. No one ran screaming at my red shiny face (probably cause Florida?). My skin thanks me though- aside from a few hormonal (minor) breakouts, the last few years have practically un-aged me Skincare/makeup hybrid products are also fantastic for the skin-loving benefits, and to still add some glow/pigment/etc. to the face as you get used to going out without regular makeup!
