While I like the idea, there is at least a theoretical risk that this (the painted steel girder) could give rise to liability, either from not being sufficiently visible or because it is effectively a booby trap that does more damage to a vehicle making contact than might be expected by a driver. For context, I have heard of cases of homeowners who have had boundary walls damaged in car accidents being advised not to rebuild their walls too strongly to avoid liability to anyone hurt by colliding with their wall in a future accident. Similarly, in many jurisdictions in the US, people who have had the bright idea of replacing a damaged mail box with a concrete box mounted on a girder concreted into the ground are advised that when the next person swinging a baseball bat out a car window at the mailbox shatters their arm, the vandal may be able to sue successfully for damages. Its their property they can decorate it with whatever they want as long as they aren’t obstructing the view of the highway
