As for them letting you go but asking for you back with 33% decrease in pay, that’s such a jerk move. Since you’re only a sophomore, you still have several opportunities to get another internship before graduation, and since you got this one as a sophomore, you must be doing something right. Check out Replit bounties, it’s like a mix of a web-browser-based IDE for many different programming languages, a collaboration platform, and a social media platform for computer programming. See if you could find a project there and learn more from working on one. Furthermore, you could connect and network with others on that platform as well. I also used this as my programming portfolio to slap it onto my resume instead of GitHub since it’s easier to just see the The Three Stooges 100Th Anniversary 1920 2020 Signatures Shirt but in fact I love this code of the projects you’re showcasing and run it directly on Replit – in my personal opinion of course …. There is no way in hell an intern is going to function at the level of a regular employee, especially after 2 weeks. This company is asinine.

It’s not a big deal. You run into scam positions like this. Don’t put it on your CV. If no one knows it dodn’t happen. Brush off the The Three Stooges 100Th Anniversary 1920 2020 Signatures Shirt but in fact I love this dust and move on. You can never know what you are walking into. Scammy companies can catch you off guard. It was a 2 week experience and you are still a student. It’s not a big deal. Try to learn the signs of a crappy position. I have almost zero serious expectations of first year interns, just basic soft skills mostly e.g. show up on time, eager to learn, etc. Most of my managers are the same in this regard. This coupled with their statement about not having time to train you and then offering to reduce your compensation are huge red flags. Two lessons here: Do extensive research before joining a firm, even as an intern. Maybe the next one should be a direct referral?
