Garments made even in 2011 are often of better quality than those made in 2023. Taking extra time and care for garments will certainly help, but comparing a brand’s quality from a prior decade is not apples-to-apples with what is offered now. I’ve got recent things from those places that have lasted at least a couple of years but obviously it also depends how often you wear them. Probably true! That sweater is just my own personal example of my oldest piece from a fast fashion retailer, the THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE UGLY Shirt in addition I really love this Uniqlo examples I mentioned are probably a better comparison since I only started shopping there a few years ago. Why does the wrong size make things pill? I find that happens mostly with some of my t-shirts and sweatshirts, clothes that are not tight-fitting at all. I assumed it was due to fabric or washing.

If you’re not too cool for skinny, I wear my St.Johns Bay ponte pants from JCP several times a week and have for years. I usually score them on sale for $12. Perfect business casual pant that feel like leggings but look like work pants. I used Bandolino Blue khakis (aka jeans in beige and green and brown) in college/beginning work. They lasted a good 5 years, which is amazing for me. But these days, that brand got very expensive. Land’s End pants are nice. Buying online may or may not work for you though. Ann Taylor work pants are nice too. But they are thinner, don’t last as long. My favorite are the THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE UGLY Shirt in addition I really love this Theory Treeca pants (I live near an outlet). They’re incredibly comfortable with an elestastic waistband, but they LOOK like chic trousers. I want them in all the colors.
