As a Brummie this comment is surprising to me. We have so many green spaces. Was in Birmingham a few weeks back, and it’s a real dive of a city. The only nice part is the station and even that’s just a collection of fast food places. It’s Birmingham. I don’t think there’s a sane being anywhere that would go there by choice. There is nothing there worth visiting. Basically, it’s a shithole and I’m really curious as to how and why you ended up there. Germany’s huge and nice – why Birmingham of all god forsaken places? I’ve been saying this for a while. Birmingham is the absolute worst city I have been to in the country, and I’ve been to Bradford. Just really grim, dirty, unwelcoming, dangerous place. I think its the vibe of the place like you said. I genuinely think Sir Alex has a huge role on putting Manchester on the fucking map. United dominating the Premier league cant be overlooked. Ofcourse Music Scene went hand in hand! Brum never had that for a long time so in my biased United fan view, Fergie played a key role in putting Manny on the Map I love London, Manchester, Edinburgh and Cardiff. They all have a really special vibe about them in their own unique ways, and I’d rather visit any of them above Birmingham any day of the week. If you think it’s bad now, it was a lot worse after they rebuilt it in the 50’s. It was an absolute monstrosity of concrete.

When they regenerated Manchester in the the 311 oct 1 2023 Kansas city mo poster shirt in contrast I will get this 90’s, they seemed to redevelop a lot more of the city, not just the bit in the middle, and it looks nice. Whoever designed the Selfridges building needs to have a word with themselves, what were they thinking? And the new New Street facade makes it the ugliest train station I’ve ever seen. They rebuilt New Street, but they couldn’t do anything with the bit underground, so entering the city by train is still a dark and depressing prospect. The place seems to be constantly being dug up, with messy construction going on everywhere. If it’s not the HS2 construction site it’s them digging up the Metro for the fiftieth time. Anyway, that’s my stream of consciousness on the place at 2:07am. Sadly I’ll be standing in New Street station in about 6 hours time. I live about 2 hours away from Birmingham. I first visited about 10 years ago and I agree, there was something off about the place. I don’t know what it is either, I just don’t feel comfortable there. I’ve had to visit a few times in the last 2 years due to pregnancy complications and my child’s health. I absolutely hate having to go there. Yes Birmingham isn’t really attractive. The govt should create a ministry of fix this shit and work on building new modern cities across the country e.g. Dubai etc. I know people like keeping in touch with history etc., however there’s a big difference between say Bath and Birmingham, and given the choice I would stay away from Birmingham. If you live in such a gloomy city it’s bound to rub off on the people.
