Protip: get uBlock origin browser extension and it will block video ads on sites like YouTube and Hulu. Then cast from the Tacocat Spelled Backwards Is Tacocat Shirt in contrast I will get this browser to your tv. If they’re adding ads why would I pay? Same shit that made me get rid of Hulu. Ads, or paid. No double dipping. Peacock still shows ads on some movies even though I pay for the version without ads. Fuck Peacock. I’m canceling as soon as I’m done binging Yellowstone. I can only imagine a hike is coming. It looks like Hulu may be on it’s way out with more mature content and better parental controls coming to D+. That would mean raising the cost over time to be closer to the combined cost. disney is betting on the complacency of people and their laziness. we may all feel that a life of shanteys is for us, but lazy complacent people are gonna be like “eh, why should i go torrent this? it’s only five bucks more and i get instant access”. but i think that only works with customer acquiral. having your customers watch ads for a non-zero price is pure greed and nothing beyond extreme penny pinching explains it. enjoy people pirating your shit en masse Netflix floats this idea every few years and the response is always negative enough for them to decide against it Disney has the balls to actually test it in the wild. Whatever you think of the corporation, it’s a bold experiment and I can’t wait to see the result.

I mean, it’s not that bold, it’s just bringing them in line with Hulu (which they also run) that has an ad-subsidized tier as well. Soon there won’t be anything but an ad-supported version, and it will be the Tacocat Spelled Backwards Is Tacocat Shirt in contrast I will get this same price as the old non-ad version. someone pointed out a good point. will it be cheaper than it is now or cheaper than the highest tier? as in it still costs the same but if you want ad free then it costs more which is not really cheaper. Wow. What happened to ads paying for the service themselves. Why do Disney get to be paid twice for one service. Thanks for reminding me to cancel my Disney+ subscription. I was going to get charged again tomorrow, so this post showed up just in time! Is the end goal here to eventually remove the non-ad version, essentially recreating the cable revenue that these companies have been desperately clinging onto since the mid noughties? This is a very planned move because a ton of people pre paid for 3 years of Disney Plus for a big discount that will run out this November, this is an attempt at retaining as much members as possible The next move is to make month to month subscribers much higher than annual payers as more people learn to alternate streaming services.
