It can be done where I live so hopefully English Common Law is as helpful to you as it is here. Saying a blessing for you that this is resolved quickly. You are the Summoning the Spooky Season Evil Cat Shirt Furthermore, I will do this direct heirs. He died intestate, so get the local probate court to open up his estate so you can take what is yours. This is a book, dude. Who was living there when your dad died? If no one but him, you can kick all of these people out, tell them to fuck right off, and file a police report for anything that’s missing. Even with a will, the youngest is a minor. I didn’t realize you could cut the minor out of the will? I’m Canadian so our laws are a little different. It even with a will i’d contest it. Obviously without a valid will, the assets go to the children. You mentioned alcoholism so there may be an argument there against the will. Especially if written years ago as both kids were likely minors. Can anyone set me straight about the minors and the duty of the parent? In Canadian law our divorced parents are required to carry life insurance for the children if they die to cover child support. It’s standard in most divorce agreements. In some cases the obligations last til the child is 21 if living at home and in university. You need to get before a judge as a matter of utmost urgency, and one of the children needs to be appointed as executor. If she truly is taking items from the house before the will has been read and executed, she will be in a lot of trouble. Trust your solicitor and follow the legal process. It is possible your father put her in charge of the will so be ready for that.

There may be some merit in going in and taking a video (painfully slow pans of each room) of the Summoning the Spooky Season Evil Cat Shirt Furthermore, I will do this entire house. Top it off with pictures of the contents of each drawer, shelf, cupboard, etc. This way you have a video/picture inventory of sorts. The more detailed the better. Odometer on the cars, etc. Firmly replace yourself as managing the estate – not her – and that you’ve retained a lawyer if she wishes to express her interest in any assets. Since she is a bit nutto – go in pairs. Never go alone. Never interact with her alone. Strength in numbers. Video record interactions with her from start to finish. Verify with your lawyer if you can legally change the locks. I think you should be able to. Use your lawyer to shield you from her if need be. All of these maneuvers will either shut her up, or force her to reveal any secret paper she has been hiding. Either are good to get into the light for their own respective reasons. Note: any homemade will is effectively worthless unless it has been notarized (a lawyer or notary had witnessed your dad actually signing it).
