Two weeks ago my boss was acting weird. Canceled all my meetings. Couldn’t understand what was going on. I asked an older coworker for advice and all he said was: “just go ask him what is going on and be honest about it” I did, and found out I was being let go. But I’m happy I asked because I would have been in turmoil another two weeks had I not done that That was my first thought to give benefit of the doubt but a 5 person office is extremely lucky to have a single admin. It’s very unlikely they’re looking for another one and if they were that would be after conversations with the current admin about their workload (because if they can keep pushing stuff onto the current admin without hiring someone they will) Ghosting them gives them the narrative of why you left or quit. Make damn sure everyone there knows why you’re leaving. Don’t let the liars spin your leaving for their own advantage. Ghosting is a burned bridge and no rehire, so is loudly quitting and letting everyone know you’re done being fucked. There’s only four other people working in that office, so not much of a bridge to burn. And I can’t imagine she ever wants to be rehired by these clowns. She should send out a company wide email telling them that she’s putting in her resignation affective immediately, then attached a copy of the job listing. Puts the boss on blast and prevents BS being used as why she left.

Tell him that you know that they’re hiring for your position, and ask if that means you’re being let go. If he says yes, tell him thank you, wish him well, and leave. If he says no, that they are just hiring a second administrative assistant, tell him that you need for your salary to be brought in line with the $20/hr they will be offering the new person. If he says no, tell him thank you, wish him well, and leave.
