Yeah, when they ask ridiculous questions I give ridiculous answers or just say “no”. I’m not putting up with BS any more. I’ve played the Stop Asking Why Im Crazy I Dont Ask Why You’re So Stupid Turtle shirt But I will love this corporate game for 20 years and it never got me anywhere good. I want to work for real and honest people who deal honestly with their employees and honor their offers. I think this is a mixed bag- I have interviewed individuals who have expressed to the recruiter that they want an amount that is Mid-High on the payband – but just because they meet the minimum requirements doesn’t mean I am willing to offer at the Mid point. On the other hand, I just pushed HR on offering at the Cap on the same position for a candidate that really met all of my needs. Obviously, some places are really dishonest about the band (we are not), but I do think the assumption that an applicant deserves the mid-point is a fallacy and that getting offered at the Maximum is possible. You have to understand, corporate honchos do not live in the real world. They’re yes man’d all day long, told how wonderful they are, and think eveyrone around them is stupid. You have to get a front row seat to their hubris, then this stuff will make sense.

I just want the Stop Asking Why Im Crazy I Dont Ask Why You’re So Stupid Turtle shirt But I will love this chance at an entry level position so I can actually get away with what you’ve done in the future I must be the anomaly manager. Hired a person 50k above high salary and 70k above her ask. Well worth it with her experience. Was the range company posted or job site “estimate”? Were you qualified for that job at all? I react like that when an applicant’s ask is way off of their qualifications. I understand room for negotiation, but if you should probably be making 100k and you ask for 200k, I’m not wasting either of our time. Oh totally. I currently make 1000 a week gross but only because I’m public sector and my boss is honestly a fucking bad ass who demands we all start at 25 an hour full time. Still it was a struggle just to get that much. Most of the private sector jobs I’ve had do the same shit you’re talking about and honestly I’m fucking sick of it.
