The other thing is that his company pays far more than other nearby companies, has better benefits & more PTO (double what most other companies are offering). This is because they can’t have a huge disparity between union and non-union roles. I have no idea why you’d jump to that conclusion. Have you ever negotiated anything other than your own salary? You have to get enough people to agree with you that will do drastic measures like walkouts and strikes if things don’t change. When you can easily go find a new job, a promotion, a raise, then it’s not going to be in your best interest to pay dues and be part of a union.
