That’s sad because it’s my second favorite franchise behind Legend of Zelda. I’m similar to you, been playing since 1997. Huge fan of D1 and D2, had high hopes for D3 but really ended up hating the mechanics from day 1. D4 has honestly rekindled my love for Diablo. I didn’t even realize there was a shop until 12 hours into playing. At least it’s not in my face, and it’s like 4 tabs deep into the pause menu of the game. ITT games industry shills blaming literal children for spending money on MTX after being preyed upon by multibillion dollar megacorporations employing every dirty psychological trick in the book How quickly they forget fallout 76’s launch, the lies surrounding the collectors edition, the cheap replacement offer and then the actual replacement while leaking players personal information… all the while giving half assed excuses that were proven to be lies… Yeah 100% if 76 had the quality, longeivty and audience they would have milked the shit out of it. Also you’re forgetting the whole reason that game exists. Bethesda tried to push for paid mods only and rightfully got insane backlash. Realizing they lost that battle with their single player offline games, they made an online only game that fans couldn’t take advantage of free mods with out breaking ToS. The conception of 76 was greed.

I gave you the award because you’re a dumbass. Literally every other Blizzard game is now pay-to-win except this one. This is exactly why we can’t have nice things. Though the studios are still to blame. They know what they are doing. I actually wanted to play D4 after having skipped 3. I liked the way it played in the beta (technical issues aside), but it clearly showed where the business model was heading. At this point the only way I’ll end up playing it is as a hardware pack-in (currently with Nvidia GPUs). If the item can only be earned by paying real money, then it is not worth having, and if that item is better than all the other items in the game, the game is broken period. I just resort back to playing niche single players game like Darkest Dungeon or Starsector. Paid once and I can download all the mods I want to spice up those game because the modding scene is very diverse and free as well. fuck…. im guilty i bought the 5 dollar armour but it was the last time besides the cod4 and mw2 maps to game on, never again since tho. its against my religion now.
