The guy didn’t know my address, didn’t have a name that was the Spider Man Spidey The Nightmare Before Christmas Before Christmas shirt What’s more,I will buy this source of my undeclared income, and his name was “agent smith”. He rattled off a fake ID number and gave me a phone number I could call to verify his credentials. Lol. I didn’t call it, but I did send an inquiry to the IRS about it. Got back the message that it was a known scam. I’m pretty sure your letter is a scam, but you should verify it as one just in case. They may ask you to send them the contact info provided in the letter for their files. If she paid by check she might want to double check that it cleared the bank. There’s also a SLIGHT possibility that a data clerk mistyped a number when entering her return that caused her payment to be credited to someone else’s return, but tax return entries are double checked so I doubt that happened as I don’t see how 2 different clerks would make the same error. Don’t send anything to anyone until you talk to the actual IRS about the issue using the phone number you find on their website, not the letter.

I would recommend calling first. I needed to send documentation to the Spider Man Spidey The Nightmare Before Christmas Before Christmas shirt What’s more,I will buy this IRS and had to send it 4 different times, because they apparently never got it. Finally a saint on the phone was able to help me directly. This was 5 years ago now and my hold times were 2-3 hours each time. I sure hope they have improved, but I would plan on a LONG hold time. Make a photo copy of the receipt and if she has a bank statement showing the withdrawal, make a copy of that too and mail both, along with a copy of the letter, to the IRS address from the official IRS website. You can also find the official help line phone number for the IRS on the same site and can call them and ask about this all. I hate the IRS as a whole at least as much as the next guy; but the once I did ever have to contact them, the agent I spoke with was polite and very helpful: I’d send in a copy of the receipt and that specific transaction. They don’t need to look at other transactions.
