I wonder if that’s a separate felony he could still be prosecuted for. Unless I am mistaken, being a convicted felon with a 1+ year imprisonment limits your ability to legally possess guns and ammo. Sucks to be them! As well as vote in most jurisdictions. People have gotten years of prison for not even successfully voting when they’ve had felonies. Edit: 47 states do use felony convictions to disenfranchise citizens, with 9 being permanent prohibition of voting, 15 that can restore them after release and parole or probation, and 23 which reinstate voting after release. (No citation provided by the person who claimed this, will edit if they provide it. It should be easy to find though if true) It is important to note, however, that this is still voter disenfranchisement. Disenfranchisement of voters that disproportionately effects particular groups over others. Which is on purpose. And prisons in some places in the US will also hold their prisoners illegally for literally years after their release dates, and nothing is done about it. During this time, and also beyond them, they can’t vote to try and fix it. Only two states (Maine and Vermont) let prisoners vote. Many states even restrict the right to vote after you get out of prison, with a few making it a lifetime ban. And a lot of the most draconian laws are in deep red states, and they also happen to convict minorities for felonies at a disproportionate rate, especially for relatively minor crimes that a white guy would get a misdemeanor for. I’m sure it’s a total coincidence and not just a way to disenfranchise voters that don’t support the GQP.
