If the company has been doing this for years, or stole a massive amount of money, the workers can collectively sue for damages. In some states if workers receive a higher percentage of tips compared to their wages the employer can pay them a server wage instead. So it could be that the tips you’re giving may put them in that bracket. If the company is in a state with this law then they can pay them the minimum server wage instead of the regular hourly minimum wage. This happens at the Mariners games (I live in seattle) where a handful of the beer stands you have the option to Tip but the people serving you never get the money. Was a huge ordeal last season, and this season the people will even tell you “dude dont even tip we dont get the money” always just give them cash tbh lol Here that companies dip into employee tips is absolutely disgusting and vile. They are literally stealing part of your paycheck. At a Diamondbacks game we went to get food and the lady said it was card only. I went to put my tip in and she said not to? Wouldn’t accept just a small tip. Offered to pay her 3 dollars cash tip for my hotdog and she still declined. Feeling confused and rejected I put my hotdog away, took the nachos I bought and left.
