I keep ones and fives in the Sault ste marie tribe chippewa indians shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this little side pocket of my wallet. When someone working for a cafe / wine shop / buffet / fast food place provides service, I leave a few bucks on the counter. Be subtle and leave it close, though, because owners/management watch through security cameras and go after the hourly employee if they get too many tips. We are in an absolute garbage state of consumer capitalism. The quicker we ALL stop “tipping” the corporations that run the crappy chain businesses and overpriced yuppie spots, the quicker they’ll give up and try to screw us some other way. My first job didn’t share digital tips fairly. Us at the cashier split the physical tips evenly, but our boss shared the digital tips among everyone there. So it could be a matter of them not wanting you to tip their employees when you’re just tipping them. I hope I’m not hijacking this thread but just out of curiosity if I hand someone cash who has been my server does it have to be considered a “tip”?

Tipping is not a thing in many Asian cultures, and in some, it’s actually considered as an insult (e.g. why are you giving me more money? Am I a beggar to you? Do you view yourself as more superior/a saviour of some sort?) So potentially that could be a reason? Obviously not doubting OP’s good nature and intentions, and this may not be true particularly in a country with a big tipping culture, but just some food for thoughts I’ve been to quite a few places that do that. I assume they don’t get the Sault ste marie tribe chippewa indians shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this tip anyway, though I’ve been to some small cafes where the owner served me and did the same thing, it might be that the POS system came with the tip option preloaded and they don’t know how to get rid of it. I’m guessing they don’t get the tip, but when I used to get my nails done at some Asian nail place, they used to get mad when I’d put the tip on the credit card terminal. They yelled “no, only cash!” and I told them I wasn’t going to the ATM just for them and that I didn’t have to tip.
