Meth is a huge lie, it short circuits your brain into believing you’re on the path to greatness, everything you do is intensely rewarding. Wiring in a house stereo into a car? God’s work! The profound thought when I first smoked meth was ‘where has this been my whole life?’. Boom! Your life’s mission now is to stay this way. Gross. Same bro, don’t ever forget how bad it got and how lucky you are to not have to live like that any longer. I’ve heard it said that 2% of meth addicts who go into serious recovery ever make it close to a year sober. I don’t know who did the study to get that number but I believe it without a doubt. I’m a recovering heroin/crack addict. I’ve been clean for 6 years and used for 5. It’s unbelievable how quickly I destroyed my life down to basically nothing. Within the first couple of years I lost jobs, my friends, what family I had left, the love of my life, and most importantly my dental and physical health. Then I lost my freedom, my independence, my mind, and a multitude of other things I’m probably forgetting. Not to mention the whole ending part where I was in and out of rehabs, homeless in Kensington, and wanted to stop but just couldn’t because of withdrawal and relapse cycles. Clawing your way back from from the depths of drug addiction is damn near impossible and anyone who actually gets back to normal is royalty in my book. I hope anyone who’s going through it finds their reason to stop.

I got tired of jail. I got tired of being dirty and tired. I was sick of my life being completely fucked down and the feeling of no hope, no future, no aspirations, no friends. I hope you find your reason before you hit rock bottom because it’s not a fun place to be. Truly. It would have been so much easier if I just stopped earlier. Believe me there are worse things than being in your own nice warm bed at home kicking dope. There’s a redditor who swore up and down he could do it once and never touch it again. Turns out it’s not that easy. He documents his spiral into addiction and madness pretty thoroughly.
