But the Snoopy Funcle Noun Like A Dad Only Cooler See Also Handsome Exceptional Joe Cool Shirt But I will love this other point in OP’s post is important too. The total cost of her services to my family is >$25k per year including flights, agency fees, etc. That’s out of reach for many families. We require 2 incomes to survive, and luckily with those incomes we net out ahead of one of us not working in order to do child support ourselves. But if we did daycare and we’re commuting to the office, one or both of us would have to sacrifice early or late work hours since 1.5 hours of commuting door to door each way plus 8-10 hours of work a day makes only a 9-5 daycare situation untenable. a free self contained apartment where you don’t have to pretend to be part of some random family is waaaaaay better than a ‘room’ in someones house and you have to pretend to be their surrogate daughter. Theres a boatload of emotional labour right there. Au pairs deserve way more.

Same shit different toilet. Instead of taking care of some kids, you’re taking care of many peoples homes and families. If that’s what they voluntarily sign up for who’s to say it’s wrong? Respectfully I wholeheartedly disagree, if you cant see that the Snoopy Funcle Noun Like A Dad Only Cooler See Also Handsome Exceptional Joe Cool Shirt But I will love this emotional labour of sharing a house and having to be ‘part of the family’ 24/7, and also have very low status and authority- is much higher than someone who gets their own apartment and has to be on call to perform a position of authority – then I’m not sure what else to tell you tbh. You are delusional. Also the logic of voluntarily signing up for something meaning something is automatically not exploitative? That is entirely bizarre logic and the very reason we have labour laws to protect employee rights. “Hello here is an au pair job, the salary is $xx,xxx, we pay for food, housing, entertainment and everything associated with living while you go to school or learn English”
