I paid for a ringtone (Amber by 311) years ago. I mean like probably 10 years ago, and I just never changed it. I used to love that song but now I can’t stand it because I’m like “oh great another telemarketer….never mind that’s the Slipknot playing with waves of fire devil T-Shirt besides I will buy this radio”. Probably because most communication comes form of text whether it be a text message or an email. I don’t get enough phone calls to care, and my phone is always on vibrate, with my watch vibrating to let me know I have a call. I still have a song as my ringtone. I set it in maybe 2005 and for a while it was a ritual of figuring out how to set it in each new phone. Since about 2015 it’s just automatically carried through on every upgrade But why don’t people care? I think it’s simple – voice phone calls just aren’t as big a thing as they used to be. A lot of people don’t really even care about having a phone number – it’s just an aspect of the system, like having a MAC address when you’re on wifi.

I’ve wondered the Slipknot playing with waves of fire devil T-Shirt besides I will buy this exact same thing. One of the first things I do when I get a new phone is customize the ringtone. I’m unduly attached to mine, which I clipped from the intro of Cradle of Filth’s Mistress From the Sucking Pit. My ring tone is the Ed edd and eddy theme song ear rape version but it’s always on vibrate. I get a nice dose when I have my AirPods in though We used to be optimistic about computers/Internet/smart phones. I think we’ve realized what a burden they also present. I don’t want people to call me. Send a text lol. My husband uses a stupid phone and still has a custom ringtone. I find that interesting Something that is rarely considered is that default ringtones are generally optimized for the particular devices speakers. They are also optimized to have a wide range of distinguishable notes, or notes in a range that more people are capable of hearing. Yeah, the high pitched shrills can be heard loudly by most, but not everyone has perfect hearing. I changed my ringtone to the most annoying one my phone had because I have a tendency to tune it out if I’m focused on something. I dunno. Mine is custom. My girlfriends is custom as well. My boomer parents all have default iphone tones and I think a few friends have custom. I silence my phone. I do still have the Mario bros theme music for people in my contacts, and the dungeon music for people who aren’t, but It’s just something that’s been kept when I transfer my stuff from an old phone to a new one, but like i said, silent so I never hear it lol.
