Pimples are plugged and/or infected oil glands. Hives are a reaction to an irritant or allergen and are red and itchy/painful patches of raised skin. So your body needs b12 to process folate, so if you don’t have enough b12 your folate will build up but you can’t use it, so you might as well have none b12 low + folate high = b12 likely causing both. I get my shot every three months and I’m definitely feeling better for it. The injection itself hurts like a motherfucker, though, my arm still aches and it’s been four days since the last dose.

This is likely because even though you have some inability to absorb b12, you still retain a certain percentage of your absorptive capacity, and thus respond to a larger daily dose. IM injections should only be reserved for severe cases of b12 deficiency leading to neurologic dysfunction (subacute combined degeneration). Some doctors may not be up-to-date with the data and prescribe you IM injections when you don’t need them. Lastly, please don’t do this if you don’t have a documented b12 deficiency, as it’s indeed possible to overdose on b12.
