It’s inherently flawed, albeit still a useful tool I agree, the most egregious I’ve seen is asking meditation advice when someone was having seizures because they were sleep depriving themselves to reach some sort of enlightenment. If you’re having seizures see a doctor folks. No one in the comments was suggesting this. Some people seem to think that meditation and enlightenment means abusing your body. I don’t get it and furthermore think it’s dangerous. Not that it matters, but I personally think this happens when the suffering of this world compels us to seek a cure. Unfortunately, meditation, enlightenment, and overall spirituality become easy targets in this quest for a cure. Ego is easily half the equation too, it’s not surprising even a space such as this sees a lot of interesting takes. But there’s a line, and I think you captured perfectly what it’s like when that line gets crossed all too often here yes but don’t you want that person to come here and ask? That way they can get good advice like “See a doctor about your seizures”

I mean do you want this entire sub to be “how can I get my mind to stop wandering during meditation?” over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over…..ad nauseum? It’s not a secular forum. Some people are also desperately looking for a cure-all. I definitely think it can help with symptom reduction, but it’s no replacement for treatment and other methods of help, just one more tool in the Sleep All Day Party All Night Never Grow Old Never Die Blood-Sucking T-Shirt and I love this toolbox. That’s the sort of comment I usually leave on similar posts. I have also recommended to people who described signs of mental health issues that they pursue therapy and also some evidence-based books.
