It applies to a lot of people. 2-3 streaming services, paying for a $90+ when you can get the Sierra I Love Mental Games shirt But I will love this same for $25, ordering delivery, eating out during the day, and the one everyone loves to laugh at, but overpaying for coffee every single day. Right?! My streaming subscriptions are like $40/month if that. Those aren’t the issue. The issue is that my rent has tripled in the last 10 years and my salary has not. Then the only thing to do is earn more money. Improve your skills, change jobs, rent out a spare room, start a side hustle, rob a bank, whatever. This is the way. People waste so much money hanging out and drinking or buying drugs that unfortunately they waste half of their income that way. Also, meal prepping for work days work as well or until you want to save up for something. I meal prep for Monday through Friday and it has saved me tons of $$$ every month. I only eat out on the weekends now since my income increased.

You can live super frugally and still not be able to afford the Sierra I Love Mental Games shirt But I will love this purchase of a home, childcare/education, or even just sudden expenses. Switching jobs or working towards significant promotions can get you there, but so can starting your own business or switching careers to a more profitable one (the trades are booming right now, for example). When I lived in Minneapolis a few years ago I was making maybe upwards of 50K at the time and paying for everything on my own (aside cell phone, was still on parents family plan lol). I’m just frugal and don’t spend frivolously. Could go days at a time without spending a single dollar. I wasn’t financially hurting, but wasn’t making much. Lots of people continue to live paycheck to paycheck even when they make more and more money over the year and they don’t get it, or even worse, they start saving less! Because when they make more money, they tend to spend more “oh I make 50k, so I buy oranges and bananas but I make 55k now! Imma buy organic avocado and berries” And at the end of the year, they wonder “I made 5k more this year, where did it go???” Lots of people make crazy money but still live paycheck to paycheck because they’re terrible at financing management. I wish I made 50k a year. Started at 65k and hit every economic crisis these last three decades and now I’m about to retire… At 48k a year. I don’t even want to know how much of a drop that is over 32 years of inflation… Too depressing.
