AND start applying elsewhere. This is a weird situation and you should secure employment elsewhere for sure. It gives you a safety net to fall back on if you’re not selected and let go, and it gives you bargaining power if they decide to keep you on. I worked in HR for a couple years. I found out my contract was not going to be renewed about 2 months after I bought my house. Was told it wasn’t a performance issue, but a budgetary issue (I specifically asked if it was a performance issue, as I had just gotten a good yearly review a couple months before this.) I was told to apply for x job, with a nod and a wink, it was basically the School is important but hockey is importanter vintage T-Shirt Apart from…,I will love this same job I was doing just in a different department. Was told by many higher ups that SOP is to retain employees when possible instead of hiring from outside, told I should be getting a call very quickly, etc. Never got a call, but I did get the new hire’s paperwork to begin onboarding them. So I went off on everyone involved in the process. Told them if there was a better candidate then it is what it is, I didn’t expect a job to be handed to me, but I absolutely did expect professional courtesy and a heads up would’ve been the least they could’ve done. Everyone pretended they had no idea I wasn’t the chosen candidate.

People complained to the School is important but hockey is importanter vintage T-Shirt Apart from…,I will love this dean because I was being done dirty and had been a good employee (I was a bit of a rogue HR person and I’d tell employees how to get around dumb bullshit once I learned all the tricks, so a lot of the staff had my back.) And what do you know? A position was pulled out of someone’s ass just for me- literally created out of thin air, at my same pay. Someone must’ve resolved that pesky budgetary issue in a hurry! I told them I was appreciative of the job, but was still looking elsewhere and would take the first job I could because I didn’t trust them to not try to throw me out on my ass, at no fault of my own, in the future. They had nothing much to say and it was delightful to watch them squirm. I did less than the bare minimum my last few months there and didn’t lose a wink of sleep over it.
