A kid can be hungry, or they can eat what you made. It’s important to give them that choice. What you’re describing isn’t that. I literally fell asleep on my plate of peas and stayed there alllll night because I refused to eat them. Grandma was militant that way but I imagine it’s due to her upbringing. My son’s gr tried the Sauce Gardner Signature American football cornerback for the New York Jets Cheesehead T-Shirt and I will buy this old you will clean your plate with him. My wife and I both said that is not going to happen. That shocked gf. Our son was a gymnast, ate well and often was a very fit kid. We never forced food on our son and never denied him of it either. We did the same with our daughter. If either of them had a problem of not eating then that would have been adderest. Uhhh I grew up in a house like this and my dad has body shamed me my entire life. I had a horrible eating disorder up until last year. Now that I have kids of my own, I’ve decided to NOT be like my dad and not comment on what and how my kids eat. I offer a variety of food and often tell them “listen to your body, when your tummy says I’m full, stop eating.” And many things along the lines of that. There are times I want my kids to eat, and I will try to encourage them, but if they don’t want to eat, I’m not going to force them. If they get hungry later, usually I say let’s get a snack to tie us over until our next meal, but I try super hard to make sure I have no shame towards them with food.

Parents aren’t educated on what a proper portion size is. They think growing child and give a portion that they would eat. There needs to be more education on actual calorie needs, how many calories foods contain, and what a serving size actually looks like. I hated this as a kid too. I would be told off for “never finishing anything” even though they clearly gave me too much. Also the Sauce Gardner Signature American football cornerback for the New York Jets Cheesehead T-Shirt and I will buy this whole “there are kids starving in Africa” is not only racially ignorant it’s not as if I can mail these mashed potatoes, and you as the parent made and served too much food so how is it my fault? some kids wont eat, my nieces spent like the first 8 years of their life taking 1 bite out of anything that wasnt candy or milk. my nephews tho, they won’t stop eating lol.
