I was on a packed bus home in Birmingham after a stressful day just trying to listen to a podcast and these 3 chavvy girls had brought a boombox from which they proceeded to play really crap jungle music (I don’t mind a bit of jungle but good lord this was migraine inducing), loud enough that I couldn’t hear my own stuff. I turned round and said “girls, could you please turn it down”. They laughed, turned it up and nobody else said anything. After only a few stops the driver started (no exaggeration) drifting the bus round corners. Until then I had no idea buses could drift. I just enjoyed the ride, but then when we got near town the bus pulled into the depo rather than carrying on to the bus station. I approached the driver who jumped out of his skin and told me he’d completely forgotten I was there, and that I’d have to get off there. I had a similar thing happen where a driver just drove back to the depot. There was several other people on the bus, so fuck knows how he forgot about all of us. 1990 – I was standing Dorking Train Station platform waiting for the train home. Over the tannoy comes the ‘train is about to arrive’ message…5 minutes passes, then another couple of minutes. Then the announcer says ‘we don’t know where the train is, we seem to have lost it’.
