We live in a global economic system which consistently produces inequality and exploitation. Centrists and those on the right deny this reality, and deny the fundamental change that the left sees as necessary. Instead, centrists try and manage the system to make it more palatable through reform, but even in a country as happy, prosperous and equal as Norway, the underlying systems of national and global exploitation persist. As a result, in my view, centrism is inadequate to deal with the scale of the challenges we face. There is no point in ‘compromising’ with many on the right, who are so-often blinded by nationalism, religion, prejudice, conspiracy, or greed. To do so is counter-productive, cowardly, and pleases no one.
