PS, many Indonesian you will meet are smart and independent with typical western careers. They have a really nice mixture of western and eastern values. Many are talented singers and dancers. They have a good sense of humor. Their generosity and friendship always felt genuine to me. KL? Nothing about that mass transit is fantastic. I mean.. it EXISTS, which is more than you can really say for Jakarta or Manila…. But fantastic? Them’s some pretty low standards. 🙂 It’s dying. It will be flooded in some years so no real growth happening. Makes people leave and what’s left is … what’s left. Oppressive muslim doctrine probably a factor also. Not everywhere is amazing me on the Santa Grinch And Max I Need Only My Dog shirt moreover I will buy this street and asked me if I could go with her to the pharmacy to buy medicine for her baby. I’m a solo female and was a bit /munsure of what she was asking (I don’t speak a ton of Spanish) so I said no and kept walking, but in retrospect I feel absolutely awful. I should’ve helped her because I have the funds to do so, and she specially said she didn’t want money, just help for her baby.

Santa Grinch And Max I Need Only My Dog shirt

I feel the Santa Grinch And Max I Need Only My Dog shirt moreover I will buy this same when I don’t buy the things that older women are trying to sell me in plazas, or when I don’t give money to people asking on the streets that seem like they really need help . Just a heads up I’ve been convinced to buy $50 of milk powder for a burn victim because she couldn’t afford to feed her baby. Later I saw her returning the powder in the shop for cash. She was obviously desperate so no judgement but it’s a common scam That is a common scam. If you want to help locals find a good non profit to donate to. Don’t give money to people on the street. While some may be legit, most are scammers and/or part of begging gangs, including small kids If it helps the lady was likely conning you. There is a scam where they are in partnership with the shop. The woman asks for baby formula and the shop sells it to you at an inflated price, once you leave the formula is put back on the shelf and the money split between the woman and the shop owner.

if you want to do some good then look for a reputable charity and make a donation once you have some money to spare. I think there isn’t any way to really get over this if you’re aware of other people’s reality, that’s basic empathy Being grateful of our chance/privilege to travel and being born with a relatively easy life is the Santa Grinch And Max I Need Only My Dog shirt moreover I will buy this bare minimum and listening/caring about those stories is a step in the good direction. But I don’t think you can achieve “getting over it”. If you think you can help people do it but don’t do it only so YOU can feel better those are not good reasons even tho I guess it still helps. I try to find a local charity to make a donation to. I’m in Egypt now and skipped an early morning hot air balloon ride that some on the tour group did (I am irrationally scared of hot air balloons) and went to Animal Care in Egypt instead. It’s a British run charity that provides free veterinary care for horses and donkeys primarily but small animals too. I got a tour of the facilities, hung out with the cats, and chatted with one of the volunteer veterinarians from New Zealand. And donated what others spent on the balloon. The hot air balloon ride was one of the worse experiences for me in Egypt because upon landing we were swarmed by a bunch of dirty kids begging for a dollar. A couple even hung onto the van as we drove away. It was absolutely heart wrenching but it’s not like you can donate a couple dollars without getting ruthlessly harassed by the other kids. I’m glad you were able to find something wholesome to do!

Simply giving people money does not fix anything…may want to read up on how charity can cause way more harm if done poorly. I like to recommend 3 Cups of Tea, and then the Santa Grinch And Max I Need Only My Dog shirt moreover I will buy this Jon Krakauer hit piece after. JK brought some next level pettiness to the table, and I was here for it. Mmm… Idk about all that. I mean I agree with the charity part, that’s pretty much destroyed an entire continent. US poor people have it much easier though, it’s not like LatAm countries have EBT, shelters, an abundance of soup kitchens, section 8, caseworkers, etc.. if I decided tomorrow I just wanted to be a bum and stop working I’d have no problem surviving in the US. That’s a bit strange to ask a foreigner… it was most likely a type a scheme they were trying to pull off on you… good thing you trusted your instinct and kindly said no. The truth is, you’re on your own, you were just watching after yourself. Don’t feel guilty. And like the others had said, there’s a high probability it was a scam.

Some information about Santa Grinch And Max I Need Only My Dog shirt

Nah, there’s nothing to do with her being a foreigner as they probably do this with locals too. They just want the Santa Grinch And Max I Need Only My Dog shirt moreover I will buy this money from a good person no matter where they are from lol I don’t have a good answer for this. Great question. This gets me too. Everyone out there just trying to get by and I feel bad saying no, for those I don’t buy from. Even haggling for prices in places where that’s the norm when it’s all within my budget easily. Edit to add that I’ll be reading other comments for advice too. In the meantime I remind myself that I can’t save the world. It’s not all up to me. I don’t feel any guilt saying no because 1) it’s not my job to help them, 2) I could be putting myself in danger or setting myself up to be scammed, and 3) I’m cold and dead inside when it comes to this stuff. If I want to be altruistic, I’ll volunteer somewhere. I support local economies by tipping well, not giving handouts to beggars.
Remember that there isn’t much an individual can do to reverse poverty, but giving away $20 or whatever might make a huge difference to whoever is on the Santa Grinch And Max I Need Only My Dog shirt moreover I will buy this receiving end. I just try to set aside that money ahead of time. I think of it as a tourist tax and work it into my budget. I wouldn’t feel guilty. Honestly you can get into more trouble for doing good than doing nothing. It’s much better to be safe than sorry.. As a former homeless person, I empathize heavily with anyone who asks for help. Because it is such a humbling experience for me when I had to ask. I personally give as much as I can (if I have it), or feel comfortable doing when the situation is right. I do buy and support local vendors, I don’t haggle prices down, and I do give money or food to those who say they’re in need. Simply out of the kindness of my heart. It’s not my job to judge them or question their intentions. It’s just my job to give. If people are not acting with the best intentions, that’s on them and they’ll have to live with themselves for that. As for me, I’m always going to give for the right reasons.
The first lesson in traveling to countries that aren’t of the Santa Grinch And Max I Need Only My Dog shirt moreover I will buy this same eco social status as the United States; pretty much every country, except the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Netherlands, Sweden, Austria, Canada, Japan, Australia, and I’m sure I’m missing a couple, is to be aware of your immediate surroundings at all times, and know that you as an American will stand out unless you purposely try not to. If you look at all like you’ve got money, or that it’s your first time there (wherever you are), don’t know the local language, etc., you will be subject to every little scam and manipulation out there ready to take advantage of you. Knowing that and believing that is your first method of defense and then spring boarding from that you can’t let yourself be pulled into or manipulated emotionally for the purpose of satisfying someone’s sad story or immediate need. Beggars and thieves wear suits and ties too And they’re gonna bet on the naïve American traveler not seeing what’s coming. You may feel bad but just know that that’s irrational when you’re under attack by, fulfilling, some other person’s charitable need. Put your heart in the right place for the right things, but don’t wear it on your sleeve for everybody to latch onto when you’re traveling and trying to have a good time. But that’s just me.
