I don’t think I could actually pull the Santa Claus Riding Pug Christmas Ugly Sweater Dog Xmas T-Shirt in other words I will buy this trigger on such an exhibit, but it would be interesting to see what it revealed about humanity. Seems reasonable. Literally the entire point of the exhibit is tempting people to kill an animal (hence why the blenders are still functional) so in a way it is inviting animal cruelty. Danish citizen here.. actually quite many wanted to push the “on” button. As a result the museum had to unplug some of the blenders, otherwise there would be no goldfish left? I dunno, I see it the other way. The fact that every blender wasn’t activated by the first day shows that most humans are good. Or in the least not into goldfish slaughter; to be fair, good or bad is way more nuanced than if you’d kill 2 goldfish. Could we also think that the person who pressed the button was just inquisitive? Like “Are these blenders really hooked up?”. Like when the waitress says the plate is hot but you touch it anyway to see what her definition of hot is. Keeping goldfish in unheated water it fine in most indoor room temperatures, but did these functional blenders have airstones or filtration. Were the fish being fed, were the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels being monitored. Were the blenders being cleaned? How large were the pitchers of these blenders, 4 liters? I’d wager the living conditions were suboptimal for these fish and the cruelty was occurring before the button was pressed.

I’m actually surprised only one incident? How long did the Santa Claus Riding Pug Christmas Ugly Sweater Dog Xmas T-Shirt in other words I will buy this exhibit run and how many people viewed it? Did they record how often the buttons were pushed after the blenders were disabled? (Yes I read the article, it did not answer those questions tho it appears the exhibit continued after detaching the blenders from visitor input). Because my guess would be somewhere around 10% of visitors would indeed punch the buttons. In my ethics class we had this exhibition as a thought experiment. I was the first student tonsay to the teacher that I would have taken the fish out of the blenders and try to save them. Honestly, surprised it was only one, but I guess that’s Denmark for you. Put something like that in the UK and all of the goldfish would be shredded in five minutes or less. My personal favorite factoid involving this event, which I have heard of before now, is that during the trial they actually brought in a representative from the blender company to demonstrate how quickly the goldfish would have died. It was the speed at which the blender would have killed the fish that actually determined that it was not animal cruelty.
