I was once hired as a teenager to work the San Francisco 49Ers Sucka Free Shirt But I will love this cash register at a gas station. This sketchy guy gave me a very brief (5-10 minutes) training “session” and I worked the first day. Came back the next morning. The sketchy guy handed me a phone and there was someone on the other end speaking in what sounded like a robot voice. As they explained to me later, $20 was missing from the previous day’s count, and they were giving me a lie detector test via phone. I had not taken even a penny. It could only have been the sketchy guy, who was very actively attempting to convince them I was the culprit. I quit soon thereafter. Knew it would only get worse from there. If union then file a grievance. I not then you’re at the just cause mercy of the employer. With out proper training yes any job can become a clutter f* mess quickly. If your company has an ethics site file a complaint. Just google “company name” ethics site. Most major companies will have them. If a small ma and pa company, generally no.

Most states have a job corps training site and I can’t tell you how much this helped me be able to get even basic jobs like this. I guaran-fucking-tee they “hired” you, just to help cover a busy shift, under the San Francisco 49Ers Sucka Free Shirt But I will love this guise of further employment and getting a free shift from you. Happened to myself in my early 20s when doing coffee shop work and have had friends tell similar stories. Uhhh, you go above his head and ask them why your boss is trying to fire you on your first day when you’ve received 0 training. should have questioned why they fired you and explained nobody trained you. but screw that, looks like you dodged a bullet working for these morons. I’ve started asking in the interview what the training process looks like. If there isn’t some kind of checklist, number of training shifts, etc, thats a huge red flag. Don’t let it get to you, that just means it’s a shit work environment. If they don’t train their people and fire them without explanation, that sounds very chaotic and exhausting in the long run. They did you a favor. You know how to communicate well and you know your capabilities. There’s plenty of tutorials online from coffee aficionados if you want to beef up your cold coffee skill set. And bartending is another way to extend your skill set. Story time: in my early 20s, I worked a barista job downtown in a nice building. A c suite person (did not work there) would come down and absolutely nobody would serve her at all. Folks would RUN from the register as soon as they saw her. I helped her, thinking I was doing a kindness.
