You’re absolutely right that poverty/working conditions definitely contribute to mental health problems. Depression definitely does have many ways it can be caused, and speaking for myself my depression is definitely not a sole result of work and finance stuff. But it certainly doesn’t help me feel better, working more than my body should be and never having enough. Therapy does help for many, if they can access it. Not trying to “push an agenda” just thought it would be nice to share. Idk about anyone else but I’m really working on mental health but certain things that influence it, I cannot control. You’re right that therapy isn’t easily accessible to everyone, but…wouldn’t that energy be better put to helping people who clearly need the help? I feel strongly that the energy put into this meme is instead a good way to invalidate the feelings of depression that can come from post-partum hormones, or ptsd, or a serotonin deficiency, or childhood trauma, or sexual abuse, or any number of other things. It simplifies an incredibly complex problem, as you pointed out. I guess from my own struggles with depression, I felt a bit marginalized having read that. Perhaps I overreacted, and I’m sorry if I came across harshly.
