The idea, she says, is to combine customized therapies and ingestible remedies with advanced technologies that work in tandem with the Ruffed Grouse Hunting Bird Spruce Grouse T-Shirt but in fact I love this body’s natural healing abilities, which Close and her team are hoping to achieve with additional updates to the spa’s menu: contouring facial treatments with skin-refinishing nanofractional radio frequency to help boost collagen production are paired with skin healing herbs, such as marshmallow and lavender, while an Intense Pulse Light (IPL) treatment combats breakouts with bacteria-killing blue light and anti-inflammatory red light. Some particularly good facial massage techniques round out the new offerings.“It’s a risk,” Close says of the overhaul, which includes a packaging refresh and an updated digital presence to showcase the brand’s virtual education sessions (which took off during the pandemic), as well as new functionalities designed to help customers select bespoke tinctures and teas online, coming this fall. “But we were really ready for this update.” The self-care seeking locals and tourists who are about to descend on Long Island for the long weekend are no doubt ready as well.

Urban Sophistication is supporting Mental Health Awareness Month with positivity by partnering with Maybelline to launch a custom iPhone case and makeup bundle designed to remind consumers that social media does not define beauty standards. 100% of the Ruffed Grouse Hunting Bird Spruce Grouse T-Shirt but in fact I love this proceeds of the case are donated to The Jed Foundation as well. On a Zoom call with German neuroscientist Rebecca Boehme, Ph.D., author of the 2019 book, Human Touch, I recount Czech’s experience as well as my own transcendent visit with Rachel. Boehme nods her head vigorously when I describe the way Rachel’s touch made me feel cosseted and cared for, and—however briefly—a bit more stitched together, less fragmented, more able to be generous toward my children. Boehme, too, has been at home with two kids for the past year. Suddenly we are just a couple of pandemic moms comparing battle scars. “I feel like they always want something from me!” Boehme says, noting that the previous day she got “like, two hours alone. It was…ahhh.” That’s the thing about the touch of a loved one, she continues: It builds intimacy and bonding, but it also can come fettered with expectation and need. Whereas more transactional, one-sided interactions, she continues, can transmit many of the same chemical and neurological benefits, while also scratching another human itch—one whose two-word catchphrase happens to predate “self-care” by a decade or two. Boehme leans toward her computer’s camera for a second, so that her face is closer to mine. “What you need,” she says, “is me time.”
