Abortion rights, sex education, decreasing child poverty, and access to healthcare/contraceptives lower rates of teen pregnancy more than anything. At the Rookie Michael Jordan NBA 1985 rookie of the year shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this end of the day, don’t we want stigma attached to teen pregnancy? Stigma is generally a good way to discourage a behavior and unless you have a better idea how to discourage something, I am all ears. Education. Teach kids especially early teens the risks involved in unprotected sex, from STIs to pregnancies. And teach them what it does to someone mentally and physically, and how drastically it can change the vector of their life. Stigmatizing only punishes people for their actions… let me actually phrase that better… stigmatizing only punishes girls for their actions. It doesn’t prevent shit, it just makes a bad situation worse, and without a proper support structure, can lead to drastic decisions.

Negative reinforcement isn’t the Rookie Michael Jordan NBA 1985 rookie of the year shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this only teaching tool that exists. You can discourage teen pregnancy without making teen mothers feel abandoned and negative about their situation. So, you think we should discourage something but somehow not have people feel bad when they do the thing we are discouraging them from doing? How about make sure people have better options? Fund schools equitably, teach kids about safe sex, consent, and healthy relationships. Make sure that teens have access to birth control, invest in youth programs and post secondary education and training. If teenagers have options more appealing than pregnancy they’ll choose that, even without stigma. Unfortunately people have a tendency to stigmatize things because we’re all a bunch of judgmental fucks (I’m not exempt), but I’d say that behaviors that should ideally be discouraged but not stigmatized are unhealthy eating, drug use, drinking too much, smoking, dropping out of high school etc. Basically anything where someone is their own primary victim.
