I think the ideal of long sits every day is B.S. and a huge barrier for people living in today’s busy world. The traditions for meditating came out of a society and a time when there were different demands. People who chose to be monastics could spend hours a day meditating because that was their lifestyle. It’s not how we live now. I get frustrated when I see Redditors telling people that they aren’t really serious it if they aren’t spending hours a day at it – some say 1 hour twice a day etc…. I’m all, no. That’s not necessary or realistic. Thank you for raising this!

I have twin 6 year old boys. I do ten minutes a day at best. Went from wanting alcohol to deregulate and calm myself to telling my wife to stop buying beer at Costco, and barely even wanting alcohol even in social situations. I’ve also been able to recognize my anger faster, calm myself, and be a better parent all with ten minutes a day. Do you think someone who meditates 10 minutes a day and some longer sessions here and there cannot have a spiritual breakthrough? What if they infuse spiritual practices into their life when they are not meditating?
