Although, the picture above looks more like a town Also adding on – there is towns nearby that are smaller than my village….. it’s very confusing and i think a lot of places need their statuses updating Mines similar but east mid, everything that relates to it calls it a village but there’re 5004 residents. It’s mostly due to 3 housing estates that were built ~1995-2005. It was peculiar in one way that we had 4 pubs, 3 churches, a butchers, a bakers, Florist, hairdressers, barbers, 3 convenience stores and a chippy before then when we had about 1500r. By all means it’s a town but being between two small towns already is probably why it’s never been granted town status. Yeah I live in a village with over 7000 people. And it was over 7000 3 years ago before they built around 200 new houses so likely quite a bit over 7000 now. Still a village though, apparently (Midlands) I grew up in a village the same size as /u/Breaking-Dad-‘s (well, in fact, I grew up in the middle of nowhere, halfway between two that size) and I always feel conflicted about settlements the size of yours – like there should be a word for in between village and town. Yeah I feel like there does need to be a word for that I think my village is just commonly referred to as a large village. I mean the word for a settlement smaller than a village is hamlet, so we do need one for a place that is bigger than village but smaller than town haha

I was about to say, if they want the Roman Anthony Boston Baseball Player shirt also I will do this ‘expectation’ Yorkshire village they can go down into any dip on the Moors and see that exact village. Yeah, it is currently classified as such. Was a village to me growing up (and everyone else). It has a village hall, not a hamlet hall 🙂 I have looked up my home village and apparently now it is “a hamlet or isolated settlement in inhabited countryside” so it’s not even a village. The shop and school closed ages ago. Yeah, the school closed a long time ago. There were about 3 of similar sizes which closed and combined in one of the villages. I am old 🙂 Closed in the 80s. I grew up in more of a big village. I think they all started out as villages proper hundreds of years ago, but have essentially become suburbs in the 19th/20th century. Thurnscoe probably looked something like that 150 years ago. Coal mining changed many tiny rural villages into something unrecognisable. I grew up in a pit village and it still has the ‘old village’ but its surrounded by 1930s pit houses and more modern housing stock. I live in one of these! Except the school is now a house, because people don’t want to raise children in a place with no shop or regular bus service. We can guarantee the electricity goes off every time we have a named storm though! You’re not wrong. The modern village is just a village like you’re describing that has been caught by the expansion of a nearby town.
