I honestly wasn’t expecting this movie to be as funny as it is. Penguin was a riot and the Retro style asap ricky shirt also I will do this thumb drive bit was fantastic. At the same time it wasn’t “quip driven” like MCU humor is, the humor was way more situational driven; this is a movie about a rich guy who dresses up as a bat and goes out at night to fight crime. Of course there are going to be absurd moments that would be funny. At the same time the humor didn’t get in the way of the bleak as hell tone. Bobby Pats and Zoë Kravitz had fantastic chemistry and seeing them work off each other is one of the main reasons I want to see a sequel. I especially love that first scene with them. When he’s holding her you can see, via her body language, Selina going from “wtf Batman?” to “wtf Batman… but this is actually kind of nice”, all without a single line of dialogue. Huge props to Zoë Kravitz. That kind of performance is how you get the audience invested in a side romance. I also like the trend that every time Selina first appears in Bruce’s life Alfred tries to hook them up.

Her performance by itself is also pretty damn good. If we got a solo Catwoman with her that would be pretty sweet. Wayne and Gordon making rookie mistakes was nice to see. It’s refreshing to see a Batman that isn’t all knowing and perfect. And the Retro style asap ricky shirt also I will do this mistakes don’t come off as required conveniences to advance the plot (even though they are that), they feel more like silly mistakes a less experienced crime fighting duo would make in the heat of the chase. With that said I think the movie is a bit bloated. Some of the social commentary didn’t feel like it hit as hard as it should have (one of the reasons is the mayor was a really one note character who felt like she was supposed to get more development) and they probably could have removed one or two plot threads to tighten the whole package. And if we’re to continue in criticisms, spoilers: Just… no to the Joker. That was probably the worst scene in the movie. We don’t need MORE Joker. Batman already has the best rogues gallery of any superhero, give someone else a shot. Here’s an idea: let’s see Mr. Freeze in a good Batman movie.
