The process itself doesn’t get easier. It’s still a slog and a general pita even after 25 years and numerous jobs/interviews. Time consuming overall. I’ve gotten better and not taking rejections personally and understanding it’s really a balance of where to spend my time efficiently. It really seems like the last thing they should test, because you rarely reinvent the wheel in your job. Why spend N hours reimplementing quicksort if it is readily available to use and optimized to perfection? I would understand the “boilinh down” questions where you have to reduce a new problem to something familiar and solved (like a graph search etc) I think it’s because of who does the interview. It’s usually people that don’t have enough experience to know how to properly evaluate a technical candidate. It’s either an engineer that just searched online for technical interview questions or based the interview off their previous interview experience or it’s an inexperienced founder/manager that googled technical interview questions. On the rare occasion you’ll interview with someone who has experience as an engineer and successfully hiring engineers that they worked with and knows what to look for in a person, those interviews usually don’t require leetcode. You reminded me of a multiround interview I went through, where first round was well designed, statistical brain teasers etc. I even enjoyed it. Last round was some C level manager who have probably never written a line of code amd he asked me the stupidest SWE shit. It started with explaining what everything means in SOLID, but continued to more absurd theoretical questions. I was on the verge of cancelling the call.
