You work 1 hour longer or less than usual depending on the time change and you get paid accordingly. Where I work (non life critical/non customer service), we were given the option to come in an hour later, or leave an hour early. Every job does this differently. When I worked third shift at a supermarket, on daylight savings and when the clock reset to standard we still worked the same hours as normal but we did not clock out at end of shift. Instead payroll would have to enter our times. My current job, on daylight savings we work 11 hours instead of my 12 but when the time reset to standard time we work 12 hours and basically go home an hour early. This job we still clock in and out as usual and the time is automatically adjusted to reflect the number of hours worked. However, we do take our breaks at different times because of the time change. And on daylight savings because we only work 11 hours our second break is on 30 minutes instead of 45 minutes.

Drunkards would be celebrating that they get to drink another hour, meanwhile I’m barely holding on to my sanity Remember working the night shift and the clock would stop and click for an hour. Yeah, you would get an hour overtime and in spring paid for 7. Lots of night jobs…you work the time and get paid for it. So in fall, you work 9 hours not 8 and get paid for 9. In spring, you work 7 hours and get paid for 8. Work an extra hour. So we go from 2am to 1 am, and pretend like nothing happened, and get paid for an extra hour of work. You work an extra hour or work an hour less. I got paid the extra hour along with an additional 1am break when time goes back from 2 am to 1 am. When I worked overnights, we didn’t get the extra hour of pay cause it was assumed that you would work a 7 hour shift in the spring and it would even out. We were on a rotating schedule with a high turnover rate so this wasn’t necessarily the case. After not getting the hour of OT the first year I made sure to take that day off for the remaining years I was there. Use 8 hours of PTO for a 9 hour shift. Since you are transiting the ocean time changes are an extremely frequent occurrence. The difference is the ship decides when to make those changes. As a result they only moved clocks forward at night and only moved clocks back during the work day.
