Can’t speak for the Rainbow Fragglerock Shirt also I will do this person you asked, but in my personal experience more old people are lonely than happy with their family contact. Plenty of people wither away at home or in a care facility without any sign of family, at least until inheritance becomes important. I work with seniors for my job and I see both sides of this. A lot of them definitely do end up on their own and miserable, even if they had kids. However, there are also many who have kids who care for them immensely and would rather die than put their parent in a nursing home. I think a lot of it has to do with how they were as parents. My mom wasn’t a very good mom and, while I would never have abandoned her completely, I would have absolutely rather put her in a nursing home than care for her myself. I think if she was a better mom and we had a closer relationship, it would have been different. 31F here; my husband and I have talked about this question you pose. I think that having kids so you’re not lonely / so someone will take care of you when you’re old is a selfish reason to have kids.

I believe that if I take care of my body by exercising, staying mobile, eating healthy, no smoking etc, I will be able to maintain hobbies and a quality of life as I age. Then it won’t be much different from now in my 30s. I’ll have things to do and people to spend time with. I will have friends just like I do now. Seems silly to commit to years of time and investment to parenthood for the Rainbow Fragglerock Shirt also I will do this sole purpose of having a loneliness insurance policy for a few years at the end. I don’t think having children is the solution to loneliness when you are older, plenty of my parents friends have children who they rarely see and don’t have a great relationship with. I don’t think children owe their parents anything, there is also something wrong with that in terms of having children for what you want from them. Also don’t like the implication that children have a responsibility to produce grandchildren I know plenty of parents who have pressured their children awfully through little comments about their expectations and digs and stuff. It’s not nice at all. I’m lucky enough to not be in that position and I wonder how many more people would choose to not have children without the weight of their parents expectations.
