Exactly this. Nobody got rich by wasting money on expensive showy items. Rich people park most of their money in things like property or art that will go up in value. Not in things that lose 90% of their value after you’ve worn them once. When they do show off, old money like to show off how much taste and class they have, rather than how much money.
