I went to one of the best universities in my country but as an EU citizen my tuition was only ~€2.000 a year and the government actively paid me to study. The moment the international students would find out that my parents lived in a nice house though they’d instantly start referring to me as the ‘rich kid’ and acting like I have infinite money with oligarch parents, which was ironic seeing as they were the ones paying €20.000 a year to study with no government support, along with the ludicrous rent prices, etc. wow. i couldn’t agree more. i’ve recently landed a promotion and instead of my friends or family being happy for me or reciprocating the same energy of excitement, they seem to ignore my newfound accomplishment that i’ve strived for since i was a kid. it’s been pretty lonely for me lately since the promotion. im to the point where i don’t want to celebrate my achievement at all and i tense up when strangers i meet ask what i do for work out of fear that they will treat me differently.

Since the Pinky This Shit Right Here Almost Made Me Spill My Yack shirt besides I will buy this age of 9 I was dead set on wanting to be a programmer in the future and spent over a decade of my life doing absolutely nothing but just coding and coding and learning everything there was to know every single day. Eventually I got a nice job and the first thing everyone says is ‘wow you’re so lucky’. I wasn’t lucky. The only luck I had was internet access. My achievements are the result of over a decades worth of dedication to a dream My guess would be that if you were born into wealth it doesn’t seem as neat compared to someone who lived in lower/middle class. When you have little to nothing suddenly becoming rich it’s like unlocking a whole new world, you finally get to have the nice things you’ve always wanted, so spending money on extravagant clothing would be exciting. Meanwhile with old money you’ve lived rich your whole life so it’s your normal, you don’t feel the need to spend money on name brand flashy stuff. Although I don’t know for sure since I have no old or new money lol
