People “force” kids to eat so that they eat a balanced diet, and during more convenient times. Kids push boundaries and will try to avoid anything they dont like. If you let them eat whenever they want they can learn that saying “im not hungry” allows them to avoid food they dislike and then 10 minutes later say “im hungry” in the Psycho A Boy’s Best Friend shirt and I love this car to get fast food. You have to stand your ground or in my opinion you’re a bad parent. You may be happy with your relationship with your child and they may be functioning but you are raising a person to be a member of society. Refusing meals and demanding something different every meal is not socially acceptable. Humans are animals. Animals learn with positive and negative feedback. Punishment and rewards are how we learn good and bad behavior. Ideally the feedback needs to be immediate and consistent.

This is why grandparents letting children do whatever they want is problematic because it prevents the Psycho A Boy’s Best Friend shirt and I love this kid from actually learning. As for sweets: you cant control everything other people give your child. And its not about never letting them have it, or punishing them because they want it. Its about teach them that they are treats and they cant just eat sugar for every meal. That is a lesson that also needs to be learned. I don’t believe in this practice either. I have 2 sons (2 & 4), I serve them breakfast, lunch, and dinner at normal times, the plate stays there until they eat it or it’s obviously been out too long. They don’t get snacks/treats if they don’t eat their meals but it never fails that when they’re hungry they’ll eat the food on the plate. Snacks and desserts come after they’ve eaten a sufficient amount if they want. My wife’s family never did this and it has cause my wife to have terrible eating habits and she is constantly malnourished. Yeah I am not about abuse but there is a line somewhere.
