The real problem here, that everyone is overlooking because it failed here, is that this can be made to work. This is just early new technology failure, but in the Premium the Misfits Jem and the Holograms Mash T-Shirt and I will buy this future it will work. That’s the scary part. ChatGPT and other LLMs are the excavator in a world where everyone is using shovels. You still need humans to operate it in order to get the job done properly. I’m so fucking tired of ai and chat gpt or what fucking ever. Maybe one day it will be ready for this but until then maybe don’t gamble with people’s mental health???? Ffs Also would be nice to think “yay robots will do x for us” rather than thinking “oh no robots are going to replace jobs in x”. Fucking hell scape. Gotta be scared of innovation instead of excited

Thought the Premium the Misfits Jem and the Holograms Mash T-Shirt and I will buy this thread title meant Motherboard/Vice had replaced their unionized staff with a chatbot (Not yet at least! Solidarity with writers’ unions) It’s been out for like a week… if you developed an eating disorder in a week… you had an eating disorder before the chatbot… it’s not the chatbot that made you the way you are. “Each suggestion Tessa made directly played a role in triggering my eating disorder, based on my past experiences.” So who said using ai as a therapist was a good idea? I wanna meet the guy that signed off on this because he can’t be trusted. No way, who could have seen this coming?!?!?! Some very well payed people make stupid decisions like this whilst firing a ton of employees… So, the people who work at a “non-profit” whose purpose is to provide human emotional support decide to unionize to protect their rights, company fires them to replace them with AI to increase profits, AI is unable to provide human emotional support. What a fucking joke. “Not for profit.” I’m off to see if I can find info on exec bonuses and board profits. AI Chatbot is neat but it’s still in the training wheels phase. Anyone who thinks putting this in front of people with serious medical or mental health issues, without real time human monitoring, is an idiot. There are real world ramifications here, some people aren’t just going to walk this off. This is just head shakingly stupid on so many levels. AI will get more advanced and eventually be able to do jobs like this. I personally think even when that’s true, AI is going to ruin more lives than it helps. People’s brains aren’t built for complacency, AI replacing massive sectors of the work force is going to result in so many more people with nothing to do. Some will use the opportunity for other things, many will become depressed or addicted or both. I wish we could regulate the hell out of it to ensure people don’t get outright replaced by machines, but I have no faith our concerns will be taken seriously by the powers that be.
