T-Shirt also I will do this makeup artist responded to criticism with “this makeup doesn’t have anything to do with drag performance!” when Ursula is literally commonly known as a reference to Divine if the artist was queer he would have known not to paint garage doors and square brows on someone with a round face shape but here we are… not to mention the wig line I think Eureka would’ve been the right choice as Ursula. If I remember correctly she did this like black octopus villain on the runway which was already way better than this. But tbh I think they intentionally made the Ursula character demure to get away from the original Divine references…. They already have a black Ariel I doubt they wanted to rock the boat even more

Tell me to touch grass or something but why do we gotta keep queer coding the Premium my Opinion Offended You You Should Hear What I Keep to Myself. T-Shirt also I will do this villains? Or reinforcing queer narratives around villains? Like, there should be more queer people in the makeup team period bc we deserve an equal chance. Also, what’s this obsession with people disclosing their sexual history/preferences before being allowed to do anything queer? These people are paid to show up and do make up (in this case, poorly), they’re not getting paid to disclose their sexual preferences to us. That’s personal shit. And you can say the makeup is busted without bringing people’s sexuality into it. In this political climate, what good does it do us to reinforce a narrative that the voice stealing, impersonating, manipulative sea witch who targets children is queer? Why? Let it go, and maybe we start giving our energy and resources to stories that actually do something to uplift the community and benefit us. My rational brain is telling me that you’re right, but I grew up with Ursula has my all time favourite disney villain probably BECAUSE she was queer coded. Even though she’s the bad guy, she’s very camp and rather fabulous, which to me was lost a little bit in the reboot. I think the community is upset about this because for the longest time we were just given scraps of representation (most of it pretty negative) and even though times have changed now, it feels like these references should be honoured if that makes sense? But I 100% see your point and it’s a nuanced kind of issue I guess
