Did he really? Was it a constant single meditative practice or did he switch to walking and eating meditations too? That’s what I was thinking. I thought meditation masters were skilled enough to maintain meditative awareness even while doing basic stuff. I was taught eating meditation and sleeping meditation. It’s relative. If you’ve never done more than 10 minutes, an hour seems long. If you’ve never done more than an hour, all day seems long. There are people now doing 3 year, 3 month retreats, where they do some kind of meditation technique all day, seated in an open box just big enough to do prostrations. They sleep short nights, still sitting up. I’ve known several such people personally. In Buddhism, the final goal is pure awareness without distraction. Dualistic perception drops away. At that point, meditation and non-meditation are no different.

So it’s only done by advanced practitioners.
